L&O: Trial by Jury gets the axe

Too bad that Law & Order: Trial by Jury didn’t get another chance (yet NBC keeps “Joey” on the air for fall? WTF?). It was scheduled on Fridays at 10, not a killer slot by any stretch of the imagination. Gee, the last thing I remember kicking butt in that slot was what — 20 years ago — Miami Vice?

Bebe Neuwirth was really excellent in this show as Tracey Kibre, an assistant district attorney involved in the New York City jury system. Kirk Acevedo as D.A. Investigator Hector Salazar was also peachy (though it was hard to see him and not think of him as Alvarez in one of my fave series, Oz).

TBJ was just beginning to hit a good patch. It really hurt that Jerry Orbach passed away, after only filming four episodes. [Every time I see an old L&O; with him, it really hurts. He was that show — he was NY.

My favorite of the L&O; library is Special Victims Unit (the two-hour season ender is tonight). Mariska Hargitay, and the rest of the cast rocks; and well, Chris Meloni is the man (swoon, another Oz refugee). He’s gotten some real red meat as Elliot Stabler this year. His marriage has broken up and he’s clearly losing it on the job. Can’t wait to see what happens.

Kate and I really miss Stephanie March (as ADA Alex Cabot; we call her “blonde chick”) especially her sexy deep voice. She came back for one ep this season, but (sigh) it looks like she’s not returning for any more.
