American Conservative Union releases gay marriage-bashing radio ad in NC
Smith, left is trying to force Basnight to bring the proposed anti-gay marriage amendment up for debate.
As I posted the other day, Johnston County Republican State Senator Fred Smith (email) is trying to put pressure on Senate Pro Tem Marc Basnight to get the amendment heard and debated. Now the American Conservative Union, the nation’s oldest conservative lobbying organization has released a radio ad intended to drum up support for this bigoted amendment.
Listen to the 60-second ad by clicking here.
ACU has been on the cutting edge of many major public policy battles. ACU Chairman David Keene explains, “ACU’s purpose is to effectively communicate and advance the goals and principles of conservatism through one multi-issue, umbrella organization. The statement of our organization’s principles makes clear our support of traditional moral values.”
Keene continued, “North Carolinians have a right to insist that important issues are debated and examined in the public arena. They need to understand that without a constitutional amendment to the North Carolina Constitution creating protection of traditional marriage between one man and one woman – a court decision can make changes in North Carolina law.”
“That is why the American Conservative Union is running an ad campaign asking people to call their State Senate President Pro Tem — Marc Basnight and ask him to allow a fair and public hearing on this issue in the North Carolina Senate. Eighteen states have passed marriage amendment legislation. North Carolinians need to take action to get this bill passed in the North Carolina State Senate so it can be sent to and passed by the North Carolina House and signed into law by Governor Mike Easley,” Keene concluded.
Here is the language of the bill:
“Sec. 6. Marriage. Marriage is the union of one man and one woman at one time. This is the only marriage that shall be recognized as valid in this State. The uniting of two persons of the same sex or the uniting of more than two persons of any sex in a marriage, civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar relationship within or outside of this State shall not be valid or recognized in this State. This Constitution shall not be construed to require that marital status or the rights, privileges, benefits, or other legal incidents of marriage be conferred upon unmarried individuals or groups.”
The other redneck, cracker sponsor, James Forrester, I also posted on. He didn’t buy his personal domain name, and he won’t like what a House Blender did with it.
