Perk up some topics for the Blend
I’m a worker bee today… Does anyone have suggestions on items to discuss today?
A few that come to mind…
* House Speaker Ready to Scrap Ethics Rules. Are they eating crow yet? House Speaker Dennis Hastert, decided he’s ready to scrap controversial new ethics rules covering Tom DeLay’s sorry *ss, possibly by day’s end.
* And what do you think a ticket on this behemoth will cost? It’s the new Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger plane, on its maiden flight near Toulouse, southwestern France. It can carry 555 rear ends and is expected to enter service in mid-2006. I don’t even want to think how much fuel this thing burns.
* No Justice for Bishop Jackson. “Bishop Harry Jackson, from Hope Christian Church in College Park, Maryland, was Justice Sunday’s only black speaker. Jackson had recently unveiled his “Black Contract With America,” a document that highlights wedge issues like gay marriage that would presumably pry black churchgoers away from the Democratic Party. But so far he has been disappointed. “Black churches are too concerned with justice,” Jackson lamented in his speech. Nonetheless, his association with the right wing has done wonders for his personal profile. Just after Bush’s second inauguration, he was among a contingent of black clergy members invited to the White House for a private meeting.” What a pathetic sell-out.
Bonus points in the article for Family Research Council president Tony Perkins’s relationship with former KKK grand wizard David Duke. In 1996 Perkins Duke $82,000 for his mailing list. Perkins was the campaign manager for a wingnut Senate candidate in LA. The FEC fined the campaign Perkins ran $3,000 for attempting to hide the money paid to Duke. Har-dee-har-har.
* Gannon in White House with no record of entry or exit. The faux journalist/man-whore was apparently running amok at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, apparently without the knowledge of the Secret Service. This DKos diary has links to video footage of Gannon on some of the at least five days he was there when not on the roster. The $200/day-$1200/weekend rent boy went in his own special unmonitored door, I guess. Is there any reason that the agency responsible for protecting the President can’t even keep track of who’s in the building?
An interesting thing about the posts in the diary — some of them hilariously attempt to downplay the gay angle and pump up the security issue. They are both valid; the President was at risk, and it’s entirely possible Gannon’s “services” were being purchased by some of the most powerful men in the world. Last time I checked, Monica and the blue dress was 24/7 news on the MSM, and the Repugs ate it up.
