Hastert hospitalized with kidney stones

I think Speaker of the House, Denny Hastert, is a dolt. Nevertheless, I feel for the guy’s bout with kidney stones.

Having a kidney stone attack is no picnic. I had a handful of emergency room visits for them several years ago, and I can safely say there is no other pain more excruciating — even the ER nurses said it’s worse than childbirth.

You can stop reading here if you don’t want “too much information.” I won’t be offended. 🙂

Yes, that is a kidney stone. Mine, all mine.

I didn’t have a blog back when I had those attacks, but I actually kept an online journal of the various experiences, which are incredibly funny to read now. The journals include commentary on current events of the time; Tim McVeigh was executed during this episode, and I plenty to say about that and all kinds of random sh*t.

Most of it is written in the haze of pain (or meds to quell the pain) while waiting to pass the stones. I actually took notes about the emergency room experience on brown paper towels as it all unfolded. I was insane. I think that for the other journal I actually had my Palm with me, so I was sitting on the gurney typing the experience out. Again, I know that is insane; I guess you know why I blog now.

Just so you know, I still get emails from people that surf the web, looking for information when they have an attack; I always note that I’m no medical professional and can’t give them advice for the pain, other than to say it will pass (literally!), and drinking lots of fluids (as in gallons per day), is all you can really do.
