Rally Planned Against 'Defense of Marriage' Amendment in Raleigh

[NOTE: House Blend background on NC’s amendment fight is here, complete with the rogue’s gallery of redneck losers pushing the legislation and their contact info. I’m chained to my desk today, so my activism will have to be virtual — if folks attend and get pix, send them my way!]

There’s going to be a rally today at the General Assembly Building in Raleigh, led by members of the faith community in support of gay civil marriage. (N&O;):

At noon Tuesday, around 100 religious leaders from across the state will gather in front of the general assembly building to rally against a constitutional amendment that would define marriage in North Carolina as only between a man and a woman.

The demonstrators say the “Defense of Marriage” amendment is discrimination against same-sex couples.

Organizers say people of diverse faiths are coming together on this issue, while other people of faiths are defending the traditional definition of marriage.

March 15th Lobby Day and Rally–

Come Out Against the proposed Anti-LGBT Constitutional Amendment. Right now, proposed constitutional amendments sit in both the House and Senate of the NC Legislature. If passed, the amendment would deny any kind of partnership recognition for same sex couples in North Carolina, including domestic partner benefits we have obtained at the city and county level in some areas of the state. Join the NC Religious Coalition on March 15th as we say NO to the discriminatory amendments and YES to equal rights for same-sex couples and members of the LGBT community in North Carolina.

Who: All People of Faith and Religious Leaders who support equality and justice for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community

When & Where: Tuesday, March 15th, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
