United Church of Christ continues its "God Is Still Speaking" campaign
NBC “graphic”: AmericaBlog.
Last year, CBS and NBC national rejected the United Church of Christ’s “God is Still Speaking” commercial. They totally caved to the religious Right, our American Taliban, for fear of who knows — boycotts, hate mail, Freepers on blogs…you get the idea. CBS and NBC have said the all-inclusive ads are “controversial” and, therefore, amount to “issue advocacy,” something the networks have said they do not allow.
The spot, by the way, says nothing about gay marriage, and nothing specifically about homosexuals at all — it’s about the UCC’s tolerance and extravagant welcome to anyone that wishes to worship. Even Jerry Falwell thought it was dumb not to allow it to run. (You can see the latest iteration of the campaign in the ad at right).
The ad also test-ran in the Triangle area months ago, without fanfare or negative feedback — there was no outcry, in fact several gay friends of mine specifically mentioned this ad renewing their faith and exploring the UCC.
BTW, the Freeper crowd considers the UCC to be an agent of the homo agenda anyway, so that’s A-OK in my book. Check off another box on my agenda to-do list.
