Research: Take thyroid meds and diet pills, have gay kids — OK, now what?

OK. Let’s assume this research is accurate. Now what do you think the fallout of this news will be? ‘Pregnant women who take slimming pills ‘are more likely to have gay children’. (Telegraph):

A study of thousands of mothers and their adult children has revealed that Thyroxine – used to treat thyroid deficiency – and amphetamine-based diet pills appear to influence sexual orientation. Both were identified as being strongly linked to a higher rate of homosexuality among female offspring.

The mothers of homosexuals were found to be up to eight times more likely to have taken such drugs, with the effect being strongest with daughters whose mothers took the drugs during the first three months of pregnancy. The discovery, to be published by researchers in America, backs claims that human sexuality is determined by genetic and biochemical factors at work during early pregnancy.

So, for all of the wingnuts that think it’s a choice, this blows that out of the water. The flip side is that the research implies a pregnant woman could eventualy choose the orientation of her child by taking a chemical cocktail of some sort. Interestingly, here are what some Freepers had to say:

why couldn’t some drug cause gay children? unless you think being gay is normal… plenty of drugs cause mental and physical disorders

“Maybe this discovery will open doors to finding a cure.”

A brilliant observation!

Support research to find a cure for homosexuality!

“SHEER CRAP!

THAT is NOT what causes “gay children”.

It’s ABUSE, sexual or otherwise that determines if they are gay or promiscuous etc.. certainly NOT a pill.”

Highly recommended book: Homosexuality and the Politics of Truth, by Jeffrey Satinover. An eloquent work by a brilliant psychiatrist exlaining step by step how poor the science is that is used to try to prove a genetic or chemical basis for homosexuality and explaining how the gay political agenda has spent the past 30 years propagandizing that there is no choice about sexual orientation, when in fact, despite the environments that have led to homosexual behavior, there always is. An enlightening book.

NO dount about it – being “gay” is a CHOICE!

I’ve read up on it as well.

Thanks for the reference. I may buy it for our minister. He’s a complete a**hole when it comes to this topic. Needless to say, we are looking around for a new church.

I have to confess that I am very alarmed after reading this article, and am diligently reading everyone’s comments. I am hypothyroid as a result of an autoimmunity, and have taken Synthroid (the drug referred to in this study) for years. I have a 3 year old male child. The article lacks any specificity regarding the drugs affect during pregnancy on a male child. I am also a little skeptical about the claims, since the thyroid replacement hormone simply replaces what my body would otherwise be making, and brings the hormone within the body up to normal levels. It just doesn’t make sense. But I am still concerned….

“Either they are born that way or something in their formative years has caused the situation”

NO ONE, I repeat NO ONE is born that way.

Read up on FORMER homosexuals and they’ll tell you it’s all about abuse – sexual, emotional etc.. You need to read some testimonies on this. Go over to http://www.exodusglobalalliance.org/. Here are the testimonies http://www.exodusglobalalliance.org/firstpersonc7.php If you’re still in doubt, give them a call.
