The iambic pentameters of doom

Mike Potemra at the Corner thinks John Kerry will lose votes because of his close association with…dead poet Langston Hughes:

A few weeks ago, Bill Buckley wrote a column about John Kerry’s proposed campaign theme, “Let America Be America Again.” He warned Kerry that the author of those words—poet Langston Hughes—had praised Stalin, and would thus not be helpful to the Democrats’ campaign. Well, I just got an e-mail from the publicist at Random House—and guess who has just written a preface to a new book of Langston Hughes’s poems? Our friend John Kerry! It seems the left-wing cachet of Langston Hughes among Kerry’s supporters outweighs, for candidate Kerry, the losses he will sustain among moderate and conservative voters.

As I write this trochaic inversion afficianados are creating websites critical of Kerry as well as sponsoring slam poetry readings with anapaestaphiles which will most certainly doom Kerry’s campaign.

Combined with the fact that, when conservatives read something like this:

I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”

They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed–

I, too, am America.

…it just makes them even more determined to vote for Bush.

Oh. And they’ll also hide the white women.

…just in case.
