Not that it’s important or anything…

First off, I haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books nor have I seen any of the movies including The Prisoner of Azkaban which opened this weekend. But I have followed the reviews and articles on them even though I have no plans to indulge myself in the near future.

What has been bugging me though, is the constant references by writers to the fact that director Alfonso Cuarón was also the director of Y Tu Mama Tambien and, you know, that was kind of a “racy” film, somehow implying that he shouldn’t be involved with a childrens movie. Usually unnoted is the fact Cuarón also directed 1995’s A Little Princess which was one the finest movies of that year and one of the most beautiful childrens movies ever. Like the underated Gore Verbinski, I’d hand him the reins to any movie being made today.

There. I got that off my chest. I feel better now….

Speaking of feeling better, you shouldn’t if you went out and blew $9.50 on The Day After Tomorrow or Raising Helen or Troy this weekend when you could have bought a copy of Once Upon A Time In The West on DVD for $10 at Best Buy.

That’s entertainment…

(Added): My daughter comes in to say goodnight as I sit blogging and listening to the original cast recording of Rent, and informs me that they’re making a movie out of it, and that Justin Timberlake is being coinsidered for a part (an idea that isn’t as apalling as it first sounds). Intrigued I go to imdb to see who is going to direct it.

Chris “Stepmom” “Bicentennial Man” “Home Alone” “Mrs. Doubtfire” Columbus.

Jesus. What the hell is wrong with the people in Hollywood? Outside of the incredibly crapulent Michael Bay, could there be a worse choice for director?

Now I’m all grumpy again…
