College Is Biggest Financial Worry for the Young While for the Old It Is Health Care
By far the top financial problem for young people is paying for college, but for older people it is health care. These two have an interesting inverse relationship with age, with young people being relatively unconcerned about health care cost and seniors not facing problems paying for college. From Gallup:
It is probably not surprising that the two biggest financial concerns are two areas which have seen their costs grow dramatically faster than the the rest of the economy for years. Expect these issues to dominate politics for the next decade.
There has been a dead zone in legitimate health care policy debate in Washington since 2010. While Republicans insist on opposing Obamacare in all its forms and Democrats are afraid talk about its flaws, this can’t last long now that the law is fully in effect. The issue is too big, too important, and still in need of so much reform for Congress to do nothing over the long term.
