James Risen Says Obama Is ‘Greatest Enemy Of Press Freedom’ Of This Generation

James Risen of the New York Times has labeled President Barack Obama as the “greatest enemy of press freedom that we have encountered in at least a generation” for Obama’s repeated attacks on the First Amendment.

Risen, currently fighting the Obama Administration in court over revealing a source, said that Obama wants to essentially destroy national security reporting. To make such reporting state controlled and limit the parameters so as to make it completely benign and useless.

New York Times reporter James Risen, who is fighting an order that he testify in the trial of Jeffrey Sterling, a former CIA officer accused of leaking information to him, opened the conference earlier by saying the Obama administration is “the greatest enemy of press freedom that we have encountered in at least a generation.” The administration wants to “narrow the field of national security reporting,” Risen said, to “create a path for accepted reporting.” Anyone journalist who exceeds those parameters, Risen said, “will be punished.”

The Obama Administration was already caught spying on the Associated Press and dishonestly listing reporters as “co-conspirators” in court documents – both actions come on the heels of an extended war on whistleblowers.

The Obama Administration’s attack on press freedoms exceeds those of the Bush Administration drawing closer parallels with those of President Richard Nixon who treated the press as an internal enemy. The attempt to criminalize journalism comes as a post 9/11 national security state has risen up leaving the legal system as the last resort for those promoting the validity of the Bill of Rights.

Not sure this is the change people were hoping for when they elected Barack Obama president.
