Americans See Global Warming as Real but Not a Serious Threat

One of the biggest political problems for environmentalists when it comes to global warming is that people tend to be very bad at long-term thinking. Most Americans believe global warming is happening, but only about a third see it as a serious threat to their way of life. From Gallup:

Trend: Expectations for Global Warming During Lifetime

Often in politics what is important is not the overall level of support but the intensity of opinions and this is one of those cases.

The environmental movement still has work to do convincing people this is an issue requiring serious action. Fortunately, the younger generation is more concerned about it. The poll found 43 percent of people under 30 think climate change will be a serious threat to their way of life while only 18 percent of senior citizens feel that way.
