What Will Boehner Do?

There seems to be a lot of excitement that the Senate seems to have reached a deal, but the Senate has never been the problem. Democrats passed a clean continuing resolution in the Senate weeks ago. The problem as always been the House and the problem in the House has always been just Speaker Boehner.

While this Senate deal would likely pass the House with Democrats if it gets a vote, Boehner also could have ended this shutdown at anytime by just putting the previous CR from the Senate on the floor and letting it pass with Democratic votes.

On substance I fail to see why this new deal is really better than the clean CR from the Republican perspective. So the only thing that matters is if Boehner feels the Senate reaching a deal is enough of an excuse for or “pressure” to justify doing what he could have three weeks ago.

The question remains, when will Boehner fold? If he think this is a reason to fold the shutdown is over. If Boehner rejects this deal then all this Senate chatter was just a waste of time.

So we wait to see if Boehner is ready to grab this small lifeboat or if he will let the Tea Party continue to drown him.
