Disapproval of Congress Reaches New Record High

An overwhelming 84 percent of Americans disapprove of how Congress is holding its job. That is the highest level of disapproval ever found in Gallup polling. The poll found only 13 percent actually approve of Congress’s job performance which is ties the record low set in December of 2010. From Gallup:

Independents have the lowest approval of Congress ever at 9% approve – 86% disapproval, while approval from partisans is slightly higher it is  still historically low.

We are in uncharted territory as tonmwhat these abysmal numbers for Congress will mean in the 2012 election. It is possible this record level of disapproval could be expressed by individuals voting against any incumbent member of Congress or result in very low turnout among independents.
