Water Cooler – Frank Gaffney Writes From The Twilight Zone!

The Twilight Zone turns 50!

There has been a lot of good discussion in our community over the last few days about the imposition of the no fly zone in Libya. I have been rather lax in writing about it because frankly I am torn and a wishy-washy post wasn’t going to add to the discussion very much. Love it or hate it, think that it is a bad policy or not, nothing that has been said here verged over into the crazy. No for that you have to go to a dyed-in-the-wool conservative at a bat-crap insane conservative website.

Leave that kind of thing to the professionals kiddies, and Frank Gaffney is just the professional nut ball to help us out. He starts out as many of the Left have with a worry about the precedent that President Obama’s decision to take part in the UN sanctioned NATO lead operation in Libya.

Okay so far so good. There are concerns and any time we are using our military we should be talking about what it means, it is not like we have not been lied in to a huge and enormously costly war in Iraq, so we should have a jaundiced eye whenever a President of either party starts using the military. But then he really loses it.

Here in Gaffney’s own words on Andrew Breitbart’s Big Peace (Orwellian much?):

There are many reasons to be worried about the bridge-leap the Obama Administration has just undertaken in its war with Muamar Gaddafi. How it will all end is just one of them. What I find particularly concerning is the prospect that what we might call the Qaddafi Precedent will be used in the not-to-distant future to justify and threaten the use of U.S. military forces against an American ally: Israel.”

As best I can make out, Gaffney’s theory is that Obama will soon agree to a Security Council resolution recognizing Palestine as an independent state. If Israel does not immediately dismantle its settlements in Palestine, Obama will threaten “U.S.-enabled ‘coalition’ military measures aimed at neutralizing IDF [Israel Defense Forces] forces on the West Bank – and beyond, if necessary.” Gaffney then foresees the possibility of “the United States … actually raining down cruise missiles on Israeli targets in the West Bank, as it has done on Libyan ones at the behest of the Arab League and UN Security Council.”

Yeah, you did not take a bunch of acid and suddenly have it kick in. Good old Francois, with out a touch of irony or even self awareness, said that we are likely to use this precedent to attack Israel. I know, stunning isn’t it?

Gaffney is, of course, the guy that has been braying that the United States is being subverted by the Muslim Brotherhood for months and months. He refused to go to CPAC because Grover Norquist invited a former Bush Administration official who is Muslim. Obviously if Frank the Nut is willing to think that CPAC and Grover Norquist have been subverted by mean nasty and sneaky Muslims, he is not going to have any faith that a Democratic President is going to be better.

What makes this all really an nutty as squirrel crap is that the United States was the country that actually cast the veto of the UN resolution criticizing Israel for increased settlement building. Just think about the level of cognitive dissonance pointing this fact out to him must cause.

There might be a lot of reasons not to be happy about the no fly zone and our part in it, but I think we can all agree that a concern that a US president and this one in particular would ever order air strikes against Israel is not one of them, at least not this side of the Twilight Zone.

What is on your minds tonight Firedogs? The floor is yours.
