EschaCon08: Dirty Fucking Hippies Forever

n722455824_705920_1901.jpgEschaCon08 was delightful, and was kind of characteristically Duncan: smart, funny and laid back. Got a chance to chat with some of the brightest folks in the blogosphere about ideas that will hopefully bear fruit in the 08 election and beyond, and have a lot of fun too. Highlights included Scott Horton’s indication that all roads in the Don Siegelman case do lead to Karl Rove, The Rude Pundit’s disquisition on what he wouldn’t fuck Ann Coulter with, Lambert’s pony, Susie Madrack’s car, Hammell on Trial’s I Hate Your Kid and the instant Filkertom classic, Tech Support For Dad.

Also got to meet Paul Krugman. It was surprising that the most confident of intellects, the one that can navigate his way with complete self-assurance when everyone around him has lost their mind, is quite shy and sort of compulsively, unintentionally funny. He said that we’re living in the age of the anti-Cassandra — she was the one who was always right, and never believed. But we’re ruled by people who are never right, and always believe. Well, when we look back on this era I think we’ll be saying once again that we should’ve listened to Krugman.

It’s a lesson painfully learned that you don’t always score points for being right too early.

Thanks to the EschaCon08 crew for putting on a fine conference. And sign me up for next year.
